Fighting for the Future of the 340B Program, Together

ASAP 340B is a historic collaboration designed to modernize the 340B program. Here’s why securing health equity for the nation’s underserved is crucial.
Fighting for the future of the 340B program

PLANO, TEXAS (March 10, 2023) — Yesterday, in a historic step aimed at securing health equity for some of the nation’s most marginalized communities, organizations with vastly different agendas put aside their differences to fight for the future of the 340B program and, most importantly, those it serves.

In forming the Alliance to Save America’s 340B Program (ASAP 340B), the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC), National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA), and other partner groups are collectively addressing the elephant in the room: The 340B program is crucial to community health organizations’ ability to deliver accessible, affordable, and life-saving health care to more than 30 million underserved Americans. Yet, for years, instability surrounding the program has left covered entities and their patients at risk of losing access to the comprehensive and compassionate care it was designed to secure.

The 340B program is crucial to community health organizations’ ability to deliver accessible, affordable, and life-saving health care to more than 30 million underserved Americans. Yet, for years, instability surrounding the program has left covered entities and their patients at risk of losing access to the comprehensive and compassionate care it was designed to secure.

At Avita, our position is clear—there has never been a more critical time for our nation to address the staggering health inequities faced by underserved populations and the mounting challenges faced by organizations that depend on the 340B program to uphold their missions. As an organization that has partnered with local communities to remove health care barriers for more than 50 years, we applaud ASAP 340B’s efforts to ensure the program can sustainably support safety-net providers and the patients they care for long into the future.

“What underserved and at-risk communities need today are solutions,” NACHC Interim President and CEO Rachel Gonzales-Hanson said. We couldn’t agree more. As this important initiative progresses, we look forward to working closely with our covered entity, advocacy, and industry partners in the spirit of a belief we can all rally behind: Health care is a human right.
