Staying Healthy During Mardi Gras

 

 

Holiday season in New Orleans is upon us… and has been for the past 3 months. From Thanksgiving, to New Year’s and now on to Mardi Gras, New Orleans always has a reason to get in costume and celebrate.

While we are indulging in delicious king cakes or “Hey Mistering” for hours upon days, with sometimes little sleep, it is important to remain in good health. So, we’ve asked the Avita Pharmacy team for some advice on how to stay healthy during Mardi Gras season.

Here is a summary of what they had to say:

  1. Keep hydrated– Hydration is key and vital to sustaining your ability to keep the party going! Make sure to grab bottles of water or fill your camel pack up to prepare for a long day on the route. It’s also important for your voice, and that is definitely something we can’t go without during Mardi Gras.
  2. Pack snacks– Packing healthy snacks and food to eat is always a good idea. This will not only allow you to avoid those long lines for food, but you won’t have to leave your front row spot or ‘settle’ for cotton candy and a lucky dog for the fourth time.
  3. Watch for incoming beads-Unless a helmet is part of your costume, be aware of what is being thrown your way and don’t let hurled beads rain on your parade.
  4. Have fun– Large crowds can sometimes be overwhelming, but bring your family and friends and remember to have fun and laugh a lot! Smiling is very healthy.

Last but not least, remember that for everyone else in the world, it’s just another Tuesday. After carnival is over we can finally begin our post-holidays resolutions… at least until Jazz Fest, French Quarter Fest, and the many other wonderful festivals that New Orleans has to offer.
