National HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis Awareness Day (NAIRHHA Day) is celebrated on September 9th. Since 2014, communities, activists, medical professionals, and government representatives use NAIRHHA Day to raise awareness of the HIV and viral hepatitis needs of African immigrants in the United States.
NAIRHHA Day highlights the unique challenges faced by African immigrants and refugees in accessing HIV and hepatitis prevention, testing, and treatment services such as language barriers, stigma, and cultural differences. This day serves as a call to action to improve education, reduce stigma, and ensure that all African immigrants and refugees have fair access to care and the resources they need to thrive.
