Avita Acquires Two Specialty Pharmacies

To better serve patients seeking HIV care and prevention services, Avita is expanding in California with a community pharmacy model.

PLANO, Texas, February 3, 2021—Avita, the leading HIV-focused pharmacy services organization in the nation, has completed the acquisition of two Southern California-based HIV-focused pharmacies. On February 1, 2022, Avita acquired the Garden Grove, California, and Mission Viejo, California, Advantage Healthcare Services (“Advantage”) pharmacies.

The acquired pharmacies serve over 5,000 patients and nearly 2,000 HIV lives across 300+ provider network locations and nine covered entity partners.

The acquisition builds on a clear alignment of organizational mission and culture, including a shared commitment to serve the LGBTQ+ community. Like Avita, Advantage is a purpose-driven organization focused on providing extraordinary care for patients, partners, and their communities. The two newly acquired pharmacies are well-regarded as premier, patient-centric HIV pharmacies in California.

The acquisition enables Avita to continue its focus on ensuring access to critical medications for underserved communities and patients with complex conditions, including HIV.

It was Advantage's alignment with Avita's mission-driven culture and purpose, including a shared commitment to serve the LGBTQ+ community, that drew us to this acquisition. I am excited to expand our services in California to support the needs of the community.

“It was Advantage’s alignment with Avita’s mission-driven culture and purpose, including a shared commitment to serve the LGBTQ+ community, that drew us to this acquisition. I am excited to expand our services in California to support the needs of the community,” said Michael Yount, Avita CEO.

“These two pharmacies differ from most Avita locations in that they operate more like community pharmacies,” Yount said. “In addition to our onsite and central-fill pharmacies, Avita has been exploring this community pharmacy model as a new and innovative way to serve multiple covered entity partners, patients, and providers more effectively in areas where onsite pharmacies are not yet feasible. This acquisition is a significant move in that direction.”

As a trusted expert in HIV pharmacy care, Avita offers individually focused support to 340B covered entity partners, helping them strategically optimize their 340B programs and reach more patients in their communities. Avita is the largest independent nationwide provider of pharmacy services for Ryan White/STD Grantees, AIDS Service Organizations, and Consolidated Health Centers (CHCs).
