At Avita, Patients Are a Virtue, Providers Say

In honor of Patient Recognition Week, providers from across Avita Care Solutions recall patients who impacted their professional lives.

Our patients are at the heart of Avita’s mission, the “why” behind our commitment to ensuring that underserved communities gain access to inclusive and compassionate healthcare. However, as you’ll learn below, their impact on our providers is just as heartwarming. Read on as team members from Avita Pharmacy, Q Care Plus, and AvitaCare Atlanta share their favorite stories about patients who made a difference in their lives.

Found out how fulfilling patient trust and engagement is

In PrEP care, I’m impacted by patients who consistently choose prevention and return for routine testing. Watching people engage with their sexual health by asking questions, staying informed, and making prevention part of their regular care — that reinforces the value of this work. That ongoing trust and follow-through show how PrEP can help patients feel confident and supported, and being part of that process is what makes this role fulfilling for me.

Learned that resilience isn't the absence of struggle

I think of a patient who struggled with substance use and HIV, but defied the odds of sobriety and successfully started an organization to help others struggling with addiction and living with HIV.

Her resilience taught me that resilience isn't the absence of struggle, but the ability to translate struggle into mission, and that the most broken parts of a person's history can become the foundation of their greatest contribution. She also taught me that as a caregiver, I am not the hero of the story — the patient is.

Witnessing her vulnerability and strength affirmed for me why I entered this field: to support the person, meet them where they are in a non-judgmental way, and treat them with respect and dignity, understanding that they are not a virus but a person.

Studied Spanish to better connect with patients

Working with our Hispanic patients, especially those who speak little or no English, has had a particular impact on me. I realized I wanted to do more for them and have a chance to connect with them.

They've inspired me to resume learning Spanish, which I haven’t studied since college. I’ve been attending Spanish classes, which have helped rekindle my love of learning. As my studies progress, I hope this helps me connect with more patients and be a better pharmacist for them.

Reaffirmed the power of compassionate advocacy

My team and I supported a patient who urgently needed time‑sensitive medication. We worked together to overcome every barrier to ensure she received it before leaving. She became visibly overwhelmed during the process, underscoring how critical timely support can be.

By coordinating closely with our covered entity partner and persevering through each obstacle, we ensured that the patient walked out of the pharmacy with medication that could prevent a life‑altering diagnosis. This experience reaffirmed the power of compassionate, persistent advocacy in healthcare and the responsibility I carry to protect every patient I serve.
