PLANO, TX (November 26, 2024) — U.S. Business Action to End HIV, a growing coalition of businesses committed to ending the HIV epidemic in America, presented both Avita Care Solutions and its Chief Advocacy Officer Glen Pietrandoni with honors during its inaugural awards ceremony last week. Avita received the 2024 Action Award, presented to companies for completing six corporate actions as part of their coalition membership. Pietrandoni received the 2024 Leadership Award in recognition of his career-long dedication to advancing HIV care, advocacy, and innovation.

Avita and its legacy companies have been on the frontlines of fighting the HIV epidemic since it first began more than 40 years ago, when its pharmacy teams started partnering with community health organizations to offer integrated, compassionate, and inclusive HIV treatment to vastly underserved communities. Now, as a healthcare services organization, Avita leverages the integrated strengths of its three brands, Avita Pharmacy; its HIV and sexual health-focused telehealth arm, Q Care Plus; and Atlanta-based medical center and pharmacy, AvitaCare Atlanta, to actively pursue HIV treatment and prevention initiatives via collaborative patient and covered entity (CE) outreach, thought leadership and advocacy efforts, and research partnerships.

“As a founding member of U.S. Business Action to End HIV, Avita is honored to receive the Action Award and proud to share our expertise in leading integrated efforts in HIV treatment and prevention outreach among historically underserved populations,” says Avita CEO Michael Yount. “Our team is constantly innovating for the future of HIV prevention and treatment, and we’re excited to collaborate with other business leaders to share what we’ve learned over the past five decades.”

Glen Pietrandoni accepted the Leadership Award on behalf of the thousands of patients with HIV and AIDS he has served during his career, noting that there is still much work to be done to help marginalized communities.

“I was a pharmacist on the frontlines of community health during the earliest days of the HIV epidemic, long before the life-saving treatments and destigmatization efforts available today existed,” says Pietrandoni. “I’ve made a personal commitment to offering culturally competent patient care and educating other pharmacists about our critical role in ensuring patient access and adherence to HIV treatment and prevention services. While in 2024 there are powerful medications and prevention options that put us much closer to ending HIV, the opportunity to benefit from these programs is still woefully out of reach for too many patients.”

The private sector—and coalitions like U.S. Business Action to End HIV that unite it—is crucial to bridging this health equity divide, explains Pietrandoni. “Businesses are uniquely positioned to help educate their team members, communities, and clients about HIV treatment and prevention,” he says. “I believe our nation is full of companies that, like Avita, want to do the right thing.”
