PLANO, TX (October 23, 2026) — The world’s largest professional trade association for pharmacy technicians has presented Avita Pharmacy Technician James Barnes, CPhT, with its 2026 Impact Award in the Community Pharmacy category. The National Pharmacy Technician Association (NPTA) announced the honor during a live ceremony on World Pharmacy Technician Day.
The Impact Awards recognize pharmacy technicians whose measurable contributions are advancing pharmacy practice across care settings worldwide. A nine-member industry committee selected finalists using a scoring system based on measurable impact, and a peer voting process determined the winners. “James exemplifies what it means to be a neighborhood healthcare hero, serving his community daily with deep compassion, trust, and expert care,” the NPTA said in a congratulatory statement.
A Veteran, James says that military core values like respect, selfless service, and honor are the building blocks of his compassionate community pharmacy care philosophy. “Respect may seem like a simple thing, but it’s one of the easiest values to forget, especially if you’re not in the right mindset,” he explains. As he serves patients at Avita’s onsite pharmacy with covered entity partner Kind Clinic in Austin, Texas, he says, “I respect patients as individuals, valuing their time, who they are, and what they do.”

James served in the U.S. Army for eight years, starting as a Signal Collector Analyst and honorably separating in 2017 as a Sergeant. He earned a bachelor’s degree in game design from Full Sail University in 2021. He joined Avita Pharmacy, an Avita Care Solutions company, in 2022.
