ATLANTA (June 5, 2026) — For the second ratings period in a row, The Human Rights Campaign Foundation has awarded AvitaCare Atlanta 100% on its Healthcare Equality Index (HEI) and named the medical center an LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality Leader.
The biennial survey rates healthcare organizations on policies and best practices in LGBTQ+ patient-centered care, scoring participants in the following criteria areas:
- Non-discrimination and staff training
- Patient services and support
- Employee benefits and policies
- Patient and community engagement
An Avita Care Solutions company, AvitaCare Atlanta’s medical center and pharmacy partners with covered entity MedCura Health to offer compassionate, comprehensive, and personalized primary and specialized healthcare services to the greater Atlanta community, including HIV prevention and treatment programs, sexual wellness care, diabetes management, behavioral health, gender-affirming care, and more. Its award-winning group of about 60 team members is dedicated to removing health equity barriers for LGBTQ+ patients by offering best-in-class clinical care paired with a safe, inviting, and culturally competent environment.
The 2026 HEI survey engaged 741 U.S. healthcare facilities. However, only 44% received a perfect score. AvitaCare Atlanta’s commitment to LGBTQ+-affirming care earned it the top designation of LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality Leader, which is reserved for facilities that receive a rating of 100% on the index.
Across our nation, the healthcare rights of the LGBTQ+ community have never been at greater risk. Yet, more information than ever is available on how to help LGBTQ+ patients live healthy, fulfilled lives free of stigma and discrimination.
